Episode XLIV

Tonight, by playing piano at the Rufus King International Baccalaurate High School polling location, I completed my Election Night performance "How Do You Know? (With Music by American Composers)." It was very anti-climactic, considering the high stress/anxiety score I gave myself today. The long lines that morning voters experienced never materialized in the late afternoon and evening. I can't say I did not feel a little selfish relief. And I can't say I minded having to move the piano, at the election official's request, to a less a central location.

So I, and several of my piano students, played piano into the evening, having fun and free of the pressure of an attentive audience. The mistakes I played performing "On Wisconsin"? Hardly anybody took note. The soul with which I played "Heliotrope Bouquet" Same thing.

My three piano students, who treated this as a professional outing (after all, I was paying them an honorarium), all did marvellously.

Overall, it was a fun event, but completely tiring.
