TVR Speed 12 in Paris
On Monday, February 12, in the Union Cinema at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I provided music to two silent films. The films were made in France in the 1920's. Apparently, that era of filmmaking is often overlooked. It's a shame because the two films - "Paris Is Sleeping" and "Menilmontant" - were incredible.
For the accompaniment, I relied heavily on French composers. After all, the screening was part of the 10th Annual Festival of Films In French. I loaded up, in particular, on the music of Erik Satie. In going through his large variety of works, I gained a much greater appreciation and understanding of his works. In particular, I was charmed by his waltz, Je Te Veux.
In response to that performance, I went home and raced around Paris for awhile in an English race car.
