Sara Accepts, With Mila
The 6th Annual Umali Awards are coming soon - August 4th, 2007 at the Green Gallery. I'm embarassed that it is taking place in August - after all, the event is "celebrating the Year 2006" - but I'm happy that I have "extra time" to put together a good show.
I'm changing some things around. Primarily, I'll be running the graphics off a laptop and using PowerPoint. Previously, I made a movie and put it on MiniDV and ran the graphics off that, playing the tape on a MiniDV camcorder. I don't know why I've never considered this before (probably because I didn't have access to a laptop). Ray gave me the idea. Why did I ever fall for that "Powerpoint is boring" crap? It can embed video!
I'm thinking of "hiring" another official photographer. Faythe did this for me for the 1st Annual Umali Awards. She did a great job. The other events, while documented (poorly) on video, lack a ton of photographs of the event as it happened. There are some, but not many. Most I take are after the event.
The woman pictured above is Sara. She's accepting the award for Best Dining Out Experience in 2001. She was actually nominated twice for that award, and I remember each meal fondly, as well as some other meals that were not nominated. She's married now, I hear. The last couple of times I ran into her were at two eateries. The first was the Palomino. I was there with Seth. The last was at Beans and Barley.
The dog pictured at Sara's feet is Mila. Mila changed the way I regard the Bijon Frise.
Seated at front is Xavier. He won the Umali for Best Answering Machine Message for 2001. He's a funny guy. I enjoyed the way he combined humor, rap, and important information in a two-part answering machine message.
In the back is Nicholas. I'm playing tennis with him tomorrow, I think.
